Current Day and Night Skincare Routine

Hello beauty lovers! I know I always enjoy getting to peek into the skincare regimens of my favorite YouTubers so I figured I would let you see mine and also give a little update on a product that I got in my haul!

Some background info on my skin:  I am really fair, freckled, and I try to embrace that.  My skin is a little finnicky though.  During the winter months, I am more normal to dry and the rest of the year it's almost a day to day surprise haha.  I do get oily during the summer, mostly around the nose.  I will get random dry spots on my forehead or chin and so finding a good skincare regimen for me was always challenging and I would always get so disappointed when something wouldn't work right for me. I do suffer from the random breakout, more often around that lovely time of the month (sorry if that's TMI but it's true).

Disclaimer of sorts : Skincare can be tricky.  It takes about 3-4 weeks for your skin to get used to a new product.  Constantly switching up products is confusing and may result in sensitivity or breakouts.  When you try a new product, give your skin the time it needs to adjust before throwing it out and trying something else.

For my morning routine, I use a makeup wipe to remove excess oil and wake me up a little.

I then apply a light layer of Ponds Dry Skin Cream.  I am currently on the lookout for a lighter daytime moisturizer since it's warming up, but this works out well for me at the time.

Before putting on my makeup, I use the Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Liquid Sunblock in SPF 70 and my Garnier Fructis Skin Renew Anti-Puff Eye Roller.

That's all for that for the morning. Let's begin with the night routine!

Cue the first product that ever actually helped improve the texture of my skin! The Clarisonic Mia 2!  I received this as a gift and I was soooooooo excited to try it out!   I had done a lot of reading and research on them because they are such an investment and although I love beauty products, I do not enjoy spending a fortune on them.  I began using this every other night to prevent the god awful "purging" phase that I had read about and I have since stepped it up to using it every night.  If you would like a more detailed post on this bad boy, let me know and I will rave for days haha!

I always take my makeup off before using my Clarisonic with a makeup wipe.  I've been through quite a few different brands and all of them have left my skin feeling like there was some kind of residue on it.  It wasn't really the most pleasant feeling so I tried these lovely ones and haven't really looked back.  They are the Yes To Cucumbers Makeup Wipes and they are so awesome.  I usually buy them when find them bundled together as a two pack and save some moolah!
*On a side note, I also bought a sampler pack of makeup wipes from LA Fresh on Hautelook and I enjoy theirs too, I haven't had any reaction to them and they seem to be moisturizing as well and removing the makeup so I like them a lot for travel.

From R to L : Honey and Oat Cleanser, Blue Green Algae Toner, Jojoba Charcoal Facial Scrub, Pumpkin Nutrient Rich Facial Mask, Citrus Cream Moisturizer

If you recall from my haul, I ordered this lovely kit from Michael Todd Organics.  It's the discovery kit for normal to combo skin.  I'll take you through each product individually:
Honey and Oat Deep Pore Cleanser : I spread a small amount of this on my damp face and pour a little onto my Clarisonic and start the cycle.  I then rinse it off with a damp wash cloth.  I like this cleanser it smells nice, which is a bonus, and it does make my skin feel clean.  I don't really love how tight it makes my skin feel afterward.  I don't know if this is because my last cleanser was a cream cleanser and this is more of a foaming cleanser.  Not totally sure, but I don't know that I'll be repurchasing this product.
Blue Green Algae Antibacterial Toner : I apply this on a cotton pad to my entire face and then go back over the spots that I get oily.  I have never enjoyed a toner before this one. I always felt like they dried my skin out too much.  This makes the tight feeling that I got from the cleanser almost completely go away and I love it.  I also like how you can feel it working.  I wouldn't say it stings so much but may be a little haha.  I will most likely be purchasing this product again.
Jojoba Charcoal Scrub : I use this after I have cleansed by face but before the toner, one or twice a week.  I have used this a few times and I don't hate it.  However, I do like a scrub to feel like I'm actually scrubbing with something other than my fingers.  This does have some particles in it to aid in exfoliation but in my opinion not enough. I may try a different scrub from the line but probably not this one.
Pumpkin Nutrient Rich Facial Mask : I use this one a week after cleansing but before toner.  I have to say, if you don't like the smell of pumpkin be warned.  I does feel nice on the skin but I don't really feel a difference in the skin after I take it off.  I have left it on for five minutes and for ten minutes with the same result.  Probably won't be repurchasing this one either.
Citrus Cream Moisturizer : I apply this all over my face after toner.  I first looked at this little bottle and thought to myself, "There is no way this is going to last for more than two days."  That was before I opened it!  This cream is super thick and I used what I thought was a good amount for my face and it was too much.  It's so moisturizing that it's taken the place of my night cream because it's that crazy awesome!  I tend to put more on my forehead and chin so they can suck up the moisture they need and a very light amount on my nose and cheeks because too much is not a good look.  But once you figure out what works for your skin, this stuff is amazing! Though I do enjoy this product, I don't know that I will be purchasing it again.  The price point is a little high for what I can probably find a dupe for elsewhere. Plus I find my skin adapts well to many different moisturizers so when I do experiment with my skincare it is usually a moisturizer that comes and goes.

I have just recently gotten into eye creams and this is the current one.  It is Burt's Bee's Radiance eye cream.  It's alright but I do plan on trying a different one once this one is done.

When I do get a blemish, I like to spot treat with this classic.  Queen Helene Mint Julep Masque.  I just dab a little but of this over any spots, head to bed and wash it off in the morning.

So there you have it, my day and night time routines!  I hope you enjoy this post and as always thank you so much for stopping by!

 Soo much love!

Rainbow Tag!!

Hello beauty lovers! Today I'm doing the Rainbow Tag that is going around Youtube.  If you have no idea what I'm talking about that's fine, keep reading I'll fill you in haha!

So the purpose of this tag is to show you some of my favorite products that coordinate with the colors of the rainbow.  ROY G BIV everyone...with the exception of indigo because almost no one has indigo products evidently and including pink because it's makeup and multicolor because it's a rainbow tag!! lol

Without any further ado, here are my picks!

CHI Enviro 54 Hair Spray = Love! Smells amazing and has incredible hold!

Vaseline Spray N Go in Total Moisture = Lazy girls dream moisturizer!!! It flippin' sprays on people!  Upside, sideways, doesn't matter, it will spray and all you have to do is a little manuvering to cover your body parts and rub it in!!! It's seriously awesome!

Revlon SuperLustrous Lip Gloss in Coral Reef = such a beautiful color that even a girl with red hair can pull off.  Bonus! It's really opaque so on days where I'm in a hurry, I can slap this on and it will still have that gorgeous color without any help from another product!

I don't always suffer from puffy eyes but when I do this bad boy comes to the rescue! It is the Garnier Fructis Skin Renew Anti Puff Eye Roller and it's effects are almost immediate! Love!
As I am an admitted nail polish addict, I go through nail polish remover like a crazy person!  This happens to be my favorite and it's cheap!  Beauty Secrets Non Acetone Nail Polish Remover from Sally's = awesome non drying way to take off your polish!
Hello lovelies! I love these brushes from Sigma sooo much it's ridiculous! It is the Make Me Crazy Essential Kit from Sigma. So soft and wonderful!!

My Clarisonic Mia 2 is amazing!!!! My skincare routine has always been an issue for me,  I felt like I could never get it right.  This little lady is a life and skin saver!

For my multicolored choice, I went for Taylor Swift Wonderstruck.  The bottle is absolutely beautiful but I had to use the flash to bring out all the colors. As you can see it has the most wonderful holographic glitter throughout the bottle and it's seriously gorgeous!

So there you are, products in (almost) all the colors of the rainbow!
If you feel up to it, leave me your rainbow of products as a comment!  Also feel free to head over to the Rachel Louise Beauty facebook page and give it a like!!! Thanks for stopping by!

Sooo much love!

Casual Outfit and Face of the Day

Hello beauty lovers!!  I went out to dinner with my mom, boyfriend, and some co-workers tonight and I figured I would document my getting ready process.  So this is a sort of getting ready with me outfit and makeup of the day.  We'll see how it actually turns out, I know I felt like I took a million and a half pictures haha.

Also before I really dive in, I have to announce the creation of the Rachel Louise Beauty facebook page! Please head over there and give it a "like" and get updates about all new posts and feel free to give me suggestions! I appreciate it so much!

So I worked a 5-11ish today and I came home and charged my Ipod and then went and mowed the lawn.  After being sweaty and sunscreened, I took a shower, sprayed on some of my Healthy Sexy Hair Leave in conditioner, and put my hair into my beloved Turbie Twist.  If you haven't tried these, let me tell you how awesome they are.  My hair holds water to an obnoxious point, air drying takes forever and since I color my hair, I don't necessarily love blow drying.  Whatever these little guys are made of soaks up the water from my hair and helps the air drying process hurry itself along.  Love love love! I got mine at Sally's for like 5 or 6 bucks!

Barefaced and rockin the Turbie Twist haha
When I let my hair down, it looked like this:

Naturally, my hair is stick straight and refuses to do anything without either a ton of product or a ton of heat.
So I then added some Tresemme 24 Hour Body Mousse to my roots and liberally applied Sunsilk Waves of Envy Sea Salt Spray throughout my ends. Scrunch, scrunch, scrunch. Then I added sprayed in some Garnier Fructis Curl Shaping Spray Gel.  More scrunching!

This is the crazy result,  my bangs are in the process of being grown out and like to do whatever they like and as I mentioned before, my hair doesn't like to do much of anything without crap tons of product.  After this I put it in an extremely messy bun and pinned my bangs back so they wouldn't be in my way as I did my makeup.

The stars of this style!
As for my makeup, I didn't want to put on a lot of it or get too fancy since it was going to be a fun hang out.
I went for my Aveeno Positively Radiant tinted moisturizer in Fair to Light, my Revlon PhotoReady Concealor in Fair to help even out some redness, and a light dusting of my Revlon Nearly Naked Pressed Powder in Fair.

I then lightly warmed up my complexion with my ELF Bronzer and Blush Duo.  I used my Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush in Peach Satin and as a highlight, Urban Decay cream highlight in Sin.

For my eyes I used the Maybelline Color Tattoo in Bad to the Bronze all over the lid and the crease color from the Wet N Wild ColorIcon trio in Walking on Eggshells to blend.  I also used the L'Oreal Infallible shadow in Endless Pearl as a browbone and inner corner highlight.  For liner I used Urban Decay 24/7 Eyeliner in Bourbon and smudged it out with Mary Kay eyeshadow in Espresso.  I also used Espresso under my lower lashline.
I curled my lashes with my Julep Eyelash Curler.  Covergirl Lashblast in Very Black is on my top lashes and Maybelline Lash Discovery in Black is on the bottom.
For my brows I used my Maybelline Define-A-Brow in Light Blonde and Maybelline Great Lash in Clear as my brow gel.

For my lips I also went pretty simple and slapped on my Neutrogena MoistureSmooth Color Stick in Juicy Peach.

Most of the products I used, I for some reason left my eyeliner and lower lash mascara out! Oops!

I then took my messy bun down and out my bangs back.

I so hate taking pictures of myself, so I had to show you one of the many silly ones I took!
As for my outfit, my tshirt was from Kohls, my jeans are American Eagle, and my sandals are from Target.

On my nails is Essie's Bahama Mama.

Alrighty, that's all for my casual night out lovelies!  I hope you enjoyed this! As always thank you so much for stopping by!

Sooo much love!

Beautiful and BRIGHT!! My favorite Bright Lipsticks!

Hello beauty lovers!!  I am a huuuge fan of bright colors and I am especially loving the bright lip trend that's been going on.  I know that brights can be scary to start off with but I know that once you find the right colors, you'll realize how wonderful they really are.  So to give you some suggestions, here are my favorites!

I went in no real particular order so I hope you enjoy the randomness!

Number one is Milani Color Statement Lipstick in Flamingo Pose.  Milani's website desricbes this as a "flamingo coral cream."  I love it's borderline pinky coral red color and I am a huge fan of cream lipsticks so this is most definitely one of my favorites.  Random fact about this line of lipsticks, I love their scent.  They smell like a watermelon Jolly Rancher!

Lip swatches are too much fun!

Number two is Maybelline's Color Sensational Fifth Avenue Fuschia. This was my first pink lipstick ever and I still love it to this day!  Sometimes for a bonus pop of pink I will layer Revlon's Super Lustrous Lip Gloss in Pink Pop over top but this lipstick is a dream!

Third is another Maybelline lipstick that the internet has fawned over.  The Vivid lipstick in Vivid Rose.  So gorgeous I can't even say much more about it.

Fourth in our colorful line up is Maybelline's Color Sensational in Coral Crush.  This may not be as bright as the others so it may be a nice place to begin with brights.  I feel it maybe a bit more sheer than the others but still beautiful nonetheless.

Coming up next is another Milani Color Statement in Rose Hip.  This color is so pink that it totally broke me from my aversion to holy-cow-thats-pink lip colors. I love it!

And rounding out my brights favorites is the Revlon Lip Butter in Candy Apple.  I first started dabbling in brights with this color.  I love a red lip but I was scared of it getting all over my face while I was working or the high maintenance that can sometimes come with bright colors because I don't get time to touch up my makeup while I'm working.  This was the perfect solution, the shine to it helped disguise any small imperfections but it still delivers in the color department.  I also sometimes add Jordana EasyLiner lip liner in Sedona Red to help boost the color and staying power but overall I love this lipstick.

And of course I did some traditional swatching of all of these colors!

Top to Bottom : Milani Flamingo Pose, Maybelline Fifth Avenue Fushia, Maybelline Vivid Vivid Rose, Maybelline Coral Crush, Milani Rose Hip, Revlon Candy Apple

Honorable Mention products are definitely Revlon's Lip Butters in Sorbet and Wild Watermelon from this springs collection.  Also incredibly beautiful.

As you may have noticed all but one of these lipsticks have a cream finish, they are just my favorite.  I also like the sheen that the Lip Butters have because I definitely don't need a gloss on top of them.

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this post! Thanks so much for checking it out!!

Sooo much love!!!

I know that my pictures are in serious need of improvement but since they are from my phone I'm going to give myself a little break.  I do apologize that my neck looks seven shades more pale in them, I swear I do blend my makeup onto my neck as well haha!

That's all for the day! Thanks and sooo much love!

- I always know that it's officially spring when the peonies in my yard start to bud and bloom, which is happening right now! So excited. (They are also my favorite flower so even happier now!)

Nails of the day! NOTD

Hello beauty lovers!  I tried posting this manicure a few days ago and for whatever reason the images just wouldn't upload which was insanely frustrating! Anywho, I am madly in love with nail polish and have a rather large collection for someone who really just started collecting a short while ago.  Some day soon I'll take a picture of it for your enjoyment haha!

If you read my tag post, I admit to painting my nails almost every day and I very rarely have bare nails because as a former nail biter it is simply too tempting to chew on them.  I use the fact that they are too pretty when polished to keep me from biting on them.

These are the polishes I used for my NOTD.  Nail Tek Foundation II base coat is the best base coat I have ever used.  I never used to even use one until my nails started to yellow from all of the polishes.  Once I did begin using a base coat, I expected my polish to last longer but none of them but this little guy have seemed to do that.  As I mentioned in my tag, I love doing nail art but it's too time consuming to do knowing it will be gone within 8 hours of work.  Nail Tek has saved me many manicures hah!  I used Essie Come Here on all of my nails except my ring fingers which were Orly Luxe.  I am obsessed with Come Here, it is the prettiest bright pinky coraly red color.  I happen to love pairing gold with red and Luxe is a beautiful metallic gold that applies like a dream so I thought this combo would work out well.  As my top coat I used Out the Door top coat.  I got this in my haul and I loooooooove it!!!!!!  As I have mentioned before, my Seche Vite would shrink my polish and made it very prone to peeling off.  This polish, since it is a quick dry, has the tendency to do that too but not nearly as quickly as the Seche Vite.
My lighting does nothing for this manicure and I totally forgot to take a picture of it in natural light, but regardless, I still love the end results.  Bright, fun, and perfect for spring and summer.

Soooo much love!!!

Rachel

Bits and Bobs:
 - I had the most wonderful breakfast with my boyfriend this morning.  Soo yummy!
 - I am currently rocking the classic red on my nails.  I just can't help but love red nails, soo classy.
 - I have been very trying to focus on the good things that happen in every day.  Two of my favorite YouTubers have mentioned this lately and I think it's a great practice and has made my week noticably better.  I'm enjoying it very much.
